The Safe States and Cities Project is an effort by the NOLC to inform and alert municipalities regarding the law on sexually oriented businesses and on ordinances that have passed judicial scrutiny.

Laws on Sexually Oriented Businesses

The National Obscenity Law Center's staff of lawyers and law clerks researched and wrote the following sexually oriented businesses studies as part of the Center's Safe States and Cities Project.

Each of these ordinance construction studies include case law on a particular type of sexually oriented business and a comprehensive legal analysis of the applicable municipal ordinances that have passed judicial scrutiny.

Each study reflects a particular type of business or activity, such as escort services or lap dancing. Some studies, such as nude dancing and zoning, are still in progress...

Please note that NOLC also offers sexually oriented business secondary effects studies, which aid municipalities in enacting or updating ordinances, at a price of $100 for the complete set of 22 studies, plus postage, or at the cost of copying for inividual studies at 10 cents per page, plus postage.
